where we stayed, where we ate and what we did...
Another lads holiday for our friends birthday. It was a weekend full of vodka (of course), stumbling back to the apartment after the vodka, play fighting, lay-ins and tasty food.
We went in November, the weather was freezing... it snowed and it rained but the dull weather went well with the bleak buildings but that's not an insult. I loved the dark pastel colours and the worn out look of them, I loved how eerie the city looked with every cobbled, dark narrow street lit up with neon signs advertising alcohol.
Stay - Air B&B
Our apartment was very minimal and quirky. It was perfect for the five of us, two bedrooms, a kitchen, living room and bathroom all very spacey. There was more than enough space to play fight and play drunken games with bottle lids, we really did make it feel like home. We had slow mornings so ended up making food in the apartment which was nice.
Eat - Zenit
This place! The food was so good, I actually got a prawn starter then ordered this chickpea curry and asked for prawns too. I love prawns, you may have noticed from all the other guides. Whilst everyone got pretty cocktails, I stuck to a trusty gin and tonic. The interiors of this restaurant were very modern. I enjoyed the artwork scattered over the walls I found they complimented the blue woodwork and velvet booth seating well.
Eat - Pino
Our first meal in Krakow wasn't exactly traditional but if i'm honest nothing we ate actually was except for something we grabbed late night after some drinks but I'll get to that later on! We headed to this Italian restaurant and I got the seafood pasta (prawns...). A nice filling meal to line our stomachs for the upcoming drinking session.
Eat - Trattoria Cyklop
A very interesting, cosy garden vibe restaurant but again Italian... we had pizzas! Really tasty pizza though. I somehow lost all my photographs from this restaurant, no idea how but this is one I had posted to Instagram luckily.
Eat - Urara Sushi
When you're hangry and hungover and you can't find a restaurant you planned to eat at then stumble across a little gem. What better for a hangover cure though? We got a lot of food here... katsu curries and buns all round.
Eat - Zapiekanki u Endziora
A small building in the middle of a square, a hole in the wall type of place. Zapiekankis they're called but they're like a toasted open baguette. Very very tasty and better than the usual after drinking kebab?
Drink - Atelier
You'll see a door in the corner of this square and downstairs is a very sleek bar serving cocktails and craft beers. Has a pretty outside garden but it was too cold for us to be hanging out there.
Drink - Alchemia
A very mysterious drinking hole, traditional and old fashioned looking. Might be down to the antique decor and the table clothes but it had such an amazing atmosphere. We was here for quite awhile and moved on to shots, each taking it in turns to buy a round of "surprise" shots. Lovely lively bar.
Drink - Entropia
We stumbled into this bar from Alchemia, it's super close by. What a funky little hangout. We had a lot of fun in this bar!
Drink - Wodka Bar
Urm only managed to get one photo here as there was no seats and someone was a little worse for wear... so we had a shot of neat vodka to go basically. Cool little bar though and so many choices.
Eat/Drink - Moja Cafe
After exploring we stopped in here to warm up with a hot drink, a very modern cafe/bistro. Their brunch menu looked good but we had unfortunately already eaten.
Do
We didn't really do many touristy things but I can recommend the main square, old town and indoor market. I just had to leave with a Himalayan salt tea light, I love it. We was also there when the Christmas markets were on which was lovely, we got to enjoy bratwursts and those really delicious Kürtõskalács (Hungarian cinnamon pastries). We stopped by a cute stall owned by a very sweet Polish lady who was selling some Christmas decorations (that we obviously had to pick up for souvenirs) but she was also selling some homemade ceramic mugs, so we left with two of those too!
